About us

Lady Godiva's Closet is a new vintage boutique located within Plastic Deer Vintage's booth at State Theatre Vintage.
I've spent most of my life exploring the world of vintage clothing, and I'd say I've developed a keen eye for spotting pieces from the past. Too often I've had to pass up on some lovely garments because they weren't my size or style, so why not start passing the ones I can't keep on to loving homes?
As a scholar of history, fashion history has gone beyond a hobby for me - it's my closet, my way of life, and there is nothing I value more within that space is knowing that the clothes I wear have a story to tell. Too often I see vintage fashion treated as a novelty or, heavens forbid, a trend or costume. Fashion history is super important and much more than the big names that everyone knows, and I can only hope my knowledge and ethos can encourage someone to do the research about their closet and better appreciate what they're wearing through that.
I specialize in the sixties and seventies, the 'eras' I suppose I find myself most at home in, though I try not to be too snobbish and hope my shoppe can service everyone who stops by in some way. Big sleeves, the great boutiques of Carnaby Street, prairie dresses, art nouveau frolicking, bicentennial fun-having, glam-rock experimentation, furry jackets, and the mod movement are just some of the places where I find inspiration. I post whatever obscure slice I'm feeling at the moment, as well as new finds for sale, on the shoppe's dedicated Instagram page.
In my spare time I'm a seamstress working with vintage patterns and fabrics sourced locally. I started a blog focusing on my adventures in the field, but I have been neglecting it because I'm 1. busy and 2. often physically separated from my sewing machine. I hope to expand my shoppe someday to contain handmade goods and put my cluttered archive of scrap fabric to use...and put some of my work out to the public.
Thank you for digging where my head is at!
